IT Security Communication: Alerts, Advisories, and Notices

Security vulnerabilities are a fact of life these days. Our goal was to provide members of the U-M community with timely, actionable, useful information to help them protect the university's sensitive data and good reputation, as well as their own privacy and security. How do you keep people informed without overwhelming them? How do you get information out quickly to the right people in the right sequence? How do you do it collaboratively so that no one feels out of the loop? Our answer was a structured, repeatable process that includes a template, checklist, multiple communication methods, and continual refinement.
