HR Data Navigator is a generative AI chatbot designed to give U‑M campus HR practitioners a single, reliable place to get help with HR data, reporting, and analytics questions—without having to search across multiple sites, documents, or teams. It provides conversational, task-oriented support for common workflows such as finding the right metric definition, identifying the best report or dashboard for a need, understanding data field meanings, and locating reusable query logic.
The chatbot brings together and synthesizes information from key HR data resources, including U‑M websites and guidance pages, official data dictionaries, a curated repository of locally maintained/custom HR data definitions, a library of approved Structured Query Language (SQL) examples/snippets, and an organized catalog of available HR reports and Tableau dashboards. By grounding responses in these sources and linking users back to the underlying documentation, HR Data Navigator helps practitioners quickly confirm “what does this field mean?”, “which report should I use?”, “how is this metric calculated?”, and “where can I find this in Tableau or a standard report?”
HR Data Navigator is intended to improve consistency and confidence in HR reporting across campus by:
