Work to improve your relationship with a colleague who has a different demeanor, workstyle or background than you. Invite them for coffee and get to know them.

Volunteer with Michigan Medicine's HOPE Ambassador Program or another of its volunteer programs.

Volunteer to onboard a new hire or intern.

Provide colleagues sincere, positive and constructive feedback that focuses on specific observations.

Paraphrase and make eye contact with someone you are talking to before offering your perspective.

Invite someone who has been waiting to speak up at a gathering to do so.

Identify someone you work with who makes others feel valued, respected and included. Reflect on their behaviors and identify two to adapt to your daily practice.

Identify someone whom you find yourself regularly interrupting. During the next conversation with that person, actively listen in silence and wait until that person is finished to speak.

Facilitate basic ground rules with a book club or game group you are involved in.
