Use November 16 to 'Quit For A Day'

GASO is Nov. 16, 2017

The American Cancer Society recognizes every third Thursday of November as the Great American Smokeout. In support of helping smokers use this day to make a plan to quit smoking, the MHealthy Tobacco Consultation Service (TCS) is offering the following programs and resources to the university community leading up to the day.

Nov. 14 – Panel Discussion on Social Justice and Tobacco Control

On Tuesday, November 14 at the U-M School of Public Healthy, TCS will host the panel discussion “Social Justice and Tobacco Control: Impact on Underserved Populations.” Experts in the field of tobacco treatment, policy, and control will discuss tobacco industry practices that target underserved populations, such as minority groups, the LGBTQ community, low income communities, and others. Focus will also be given to tobacco-related health disparities and what can be done to help reduce inequities.

Attend this panel if you are a professional or student interested in healthcare and social justice, or are simply interested in learning more about how the tobacco industry targets marginalized populations.

MHealthy is pleased to offer this event at no cost, however, registration is required. The evening also includes a reception immediately following the discussion.

Quit Kits

To help smokers make a plan to quit smoking, TCS offers a “virtual” quit kit online, which includes helpful tools to help tobacco users ‘Quit for A Day.’

One-On-One Counseling

University faculty, staff and their spouses can get free, one-on-one individual counseling that examines the physical, psychological and social aspects of nicotine addiction. Sessions involve choosing a quit date, discussing medication quit aids and developing skills to help with your personal triggers. We also provide six months of relapse prevention support.

TCS experts are available to attend staff meetings for 5-10 minute presentations to talk about the resources available through the program.
