Spicy Nah-garita

Ingredients

  • 1/4 teaspoon Tajin seasoning or coarse salt - if desired
  • 1 1/2 ounces fresh lime juice plus one thinly sliced wheel of lime to use as garnish
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons agave or honey
  • 3 thin slices fresh jalapeño pepper or your favorite chili pepper
  • 1 1/2 ounces fresh orange juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila alternative (we use Ritual brand) - optional
  • ice
  • 2 ounces sparkling water or club soda

Preparation

  1. Slice lime in half, slice one thin wheel from the middle and reserve for garnish. Using one of the cut halves, rub a bit of the lime juice on the rim of the glass and sprinkle with the Tajin seasoning or course salt, if desired. If no salt or Tajin the sodium is reduced to 23 mg.
  2. Place 2 of the jalapeño slices into a cocktail shaker with 1 1/2 teaspoons agave syrup or honey and gently press or muddle with a spoon to release the flavor of the peppers. Be careful not to mash too much as this breaks down the pepper too much and it can become bitter and overpowering
  3. Add the lime juice, orange juice and tequila alternative if using. Add a handful of ice, cover and shake well for about 15-20 seconds.
  4. Fill the glass with fresh ice and pour the mixture through a strainer into the glass. Add the sparkling water or club soda and stir gently to preserve the fizz. Garnish with the reserved lime wheel and slice of jalapeño. Cheers!
