Employer Shared Responsibility

As of January 1, 2016, the university offers medical benefits to all non-seasonal employees that work 30 or more hours per week, whether in temporary or regular positions, or a combination of positions. This coverage is required under the Employer Shared Responsibility (ESR) provision of the Affordable Care Act. Eligible employees will be offered a choice from all health plans and coverage levels. All U-M health plans include prescription drug coverage.

Expand the following sections to learn more about how we implement ESR at U-M, including how you may become eligible, how much ESR health plan coverage costs per month, and what units are required to do.
