The MHealthy Fitness Center is closing its doors on June 30, 2017
The MHealthy Fitness Center at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube will be closing permanently on June 30, 2017. The MedSport Clinic, which shares the space with the fitness center, will remain in that location and utilize the fitness center space for patient services.
We will continue to provide the full suite of services to which our customers are accustomed until the end of June 2017.
Over the past 20 years, the success of the MHealthy Fitness Center has been largely due to its amazingly loyal customer base. We are grateful to our customers for their business over the years and we wish them well.
Why is the fitness center closing?
The MHealthy Fitness Center at the Cube was established many years ago by the U-M Health System as a self-supporting community fitness center, but the center has had increasing financial challenges in recent years, despite exploration of ways to increase membership and adjust rates. A market study and customer input through focus groups also were carefully considered. They confirmed that there was insufficient opportunity to raise rates to the level necessary, given the saturation of low-cost fitness centers that have become available in the area. Additionally, MedSport’s clinical services at the Cube have been growing, and the space that we vacate is needed for those services.
What will happen with personal training at the fitness center?
Current MHealthy Personal Training clients should work with their trainers to determine where they will complete any remaining sessions. MHealthy will continue to offer personal training services in the future and is working on a variety of locations in which to offer them.
Will MHealthy exercise and relaxation classes continue to be offered at the Cube?
Yes. The MHealthy group exercise and relaxation classes at the Cube are not a part of the fitness center membership and will continue to be available at the Cube.
Will Fit-Script still be available?
Yes, Fit-Script – MHealthy’s medically based exercise program for people with a complex health history, chronic illness or condition or post rehabilitation (cardiac or physical) – will still be available. We are in the process of determining where these services will be located and will update the webpage once more information is available.
What other fitness centers are available to me?
MHealthy will transfer current members to the Transitions Training Studio at U-M Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Program upon request. The Transitions Training Studio is a medically based fitness center within a few miles of the Cube on Eisenhower Parkway.
U-M Recreational Sports also runs several facilities on campus that might meet your needs, and in recent years a number of other fitness facilities have opened that are in close proximity to the Cube. We are happy to help you find other local fitness center options. Please contact Eric Breitenbeck or Ashley Weigl at the email address below with questions.
