What is MHealthy Rewards?
MHealthy Rewards is the University of Michigan’s annual incentive program. The Rewards program is free, voluntary and confidential and encourages benefits-eligible faculty and staff to participate in health and well-being programs and rewards them with an incentive.
How do I participate in MHealthy Rewards 2019?
MHealthy Rewards 2019 includes completing a wellness screening and health questionnaire between Jan. 9 and April 26, 2019.
When benefits-eligible faculty and staff complete both the wellness screening and health questionnaire, they will earn a $100 incentive.
Completing the health questionnaire in 2019 also qualifies benefits-eligible faculty and staff for an optional fitness center membership reimbursement up to $120.
Are activities part of the Rewards program in 2019?
No, this year Rewards does not include earning incentives or points for completing activities. For 2019, simply complete a wellness screening and health questionnaire between Jan. 9 and April 26, 2019 to earn a $100 incentive.
Who can participate in MHealthy Rewards?
Qualifying benefits-eligible faculty and staff can participate in MHealthy Rewards.
Retirees, spouses and other qualified adults, dependents, and temp staff are not eligible for Rewards.

What is a wellness screening?
A wellness screening is a confidential assessment and includes having your height, weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol values checked and then reviewing your results with a health professional.
Please note: The on-site wellness screening is not meant to be a substitute for your normal physician visit, but rather is intended to raise awareness about your health. You may be referred to your physician if they feel you may need to follow-up on any values provided.
How do I register for an on-site wellness screening appointment?
To register for the wellness screening, please log into the StayWell Portal at www.mhealthy.umich.edu/rewards and click on the Wellness Screening link. Although walk-ins may be accepted if there are open times, scheduled appointments will take priority.
How should I prepare for my on-site wellness screening appointment?
Bring your U-M Employee ID card (yellow card). You can dress as you normally would for work. Fasting is not required and you should take any medications on your regular schedule.
Can I schedule my wellness screening during my work day?
A variety of appointment times are available to accommodate work schedules during and outside of normal business hours. Because departments/units vary in their policies and staffing needs, please check with your manager or supervisor prior to making your appointment if it will occur during your scheduled work day.
Are there on-site screening appointments available in the evenings or on weekends?
Yes, evening appointments (those beginning 5:00 p.m. or later) will be marked as ‘Screening – Evening Appointments’ on the registration site. Saturday and Sunday appointments are also available.
What if I miss my appointment or need to change it?
The best way to cancel or reschedule your on-site wellness screening appointment is to open the confirmation email you received immediately after you scheduled your appointment. At the bottom of this email, there is a link at the bottom where you can cancel or reschedule your current appointment.
How will my cholesterol be checked?
The fingerstick method will be used to collect a sample for cholesterol testing. This is easy and fast. You will receive immediate results and an onsite consultation with a certified health professional. The screener will “prick” your finger and place the blood sample into the Cholestech machine. The machine automatically reads the blood and provides results within 10 minutes.
How accurate is the screening compared to a lab test with my doctor?
Wellness screeners use a Cholestech LDX Analyzer to process results at the screening. The Cholestech LDX matches the percent total error standards recommended by the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP), and is certified by the CDC’s Cholesterol Reference Method Laboratory Network (CRMLN), the same requirements to which clinical laboratories are held.
Guidelines set by the CRMLN state the acceptable total error for total cholesterol is < 8.9% with a 95% confidence. This means there may be a slight difference between values obtained in a physician’s office versus the values generated by a Cholestech machine, and even between two tests run on the same machine.
Quality control checks are run on each machine prior to its use to ensure accuracy.
Do I have to fast for my wellness screening?
No, fasting is not required for your wellness screening appointment.
What if I can’t attend an on-site wellness screening?
If you are unable to attend an onsite wellness screening and you had your weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol tested between April 1, 2018 and April 1, 2019, you can print off a Health Care Provider Form and give to your health care provider office to complete and submit to TotalWellness. This can count as credit for your wellness screening.
Please plan accordingly to ensure your health care provider has enough time to fill out and submit your form You are responsible for any fees associated with this form being completed and we recommend you follow up with your health care provider to ensure your form is received to TotalWellness by April 1, 2019. Please call TotalWellness at 888-434-4358 ext. 127 to verify if your form has been received.
How do I access the 2019 health questionnaire?
Beginning January 9, 2019, you can access the health questionnaire by logging into the StayWell Portal using your U-M unique name and Kerberos/Level 1 password.

How can I qualify for a reimbursement for my fitness center membership?
In 2019, you will need to complete the 2019 StayWell health questionnaire by April 26, 2019 to be eligible for the fitness center membership reimbursement. Approximately two weeks after completing the health questionnaire, you will receive a welcome email from IncentFit, the U-M vendor that administers the fitness center membership reimbursement service. The welcome email will include information on how to log into the IncentFit website to submit the required membership documentation.
What type of fitness facility memberships are included?
The following types of fitness facilities are eligible for reimbursement:
- Health Clubs and Gym Memberships
- Community Center Memberships
- Yoga Facility Memberships
- Pilates Facility Memberships
- Spinning Facility Memberships
- Barre Facility Memberships
- CrossFit Facility Memberships
Are family memberships eligible?
Faculty and staff who have a membership as a part of a family membership are eligible as long as they can provide documentation that shows their name listed as one of the members on the family membership.
I have an online membership (beachbody.com, Peloton, etc.) – does this count?
No, online memberships are not eligible for the fitness center membership reimbursement.
What if I have a free membership to a fitness facility?
If you do not pay for a membership to a fitness facility, then the membership is not eligible for reimbursement, as proof of payment and other documentation must be provided to IncentFit.
Where can my fitness facility be located?
Your fitness facility can be located anywhere in the United States.
Are class packages eligible?
No, paying for class packages is not eligible for the fitness center membership reimbursement.
What is the deadline to submit documents?
All documents must be submitted through the IncentFit website or mobile app no later than October 31, 2019. No exceptions will be allowed.
When and how will I receive my fitness center reimbursement?
Reimbursements for your fitness center membership will be paid in your U-M paycheck in July 2019 and/or December 2019. Please note: If at any time the eligible employee's benefit status changes (leave of absence, appointment change, etc.), the employee's eligibility to participate, and/or receive reimbursements may also change.
Is my information confidential?
Yes, information provided within the MHealthy Rewards program is treated as confidential. To protect your privacy, the University of Michigan has contracted with The StayWell Company, LLC, a national provider of health improvement services, to administer online programs, resources and the health questionnaire; and IncentFit to administer the Fitness Center Membership Reimbursement service. Please note: TotalWellness is providing the wellness screening services on behalf of StayWell.
The University of Michigan also utilizes a national leader in health care analytics and data management as its data warehouse vendor. Data are stored using unique unidentifiable codes that are created by the vendor. Those codes are not shared with the University of Michigan employees or external parties.
Information that is collected will be used to process your incentive, evaluate the effectiveness of our programs and services (quality assurance), and contribute to scientific research. When used for evaluation and scientific research, only aggregate (group) data will be considered, with no personally identifiable information. This helps the university better understand the collective health of our faculty, staff and their families and to assist with planning future programs that address the needs of our community.
Your personally identifiable health data will not be shared with your manager, nor will it be added to any UM faculty or staff files. In addition, your information will not affect insurance coverage or benefits nor will they be disclosed to your insurance company.
Monetary Reward and Reimbursements
How and when will I receive my rewards and reimbursements?
The $100 Rewards payment for completing a wellness screening and the health questionnaire will be paid before taxes and will occur within your monthly or biweekly U-M paycheck.
Fitness center membership reimbursement payments will be paid before taxes in your July U-M paycheck and/or December U-M paycheck.
Where can I see my MHealthy Rewards payment?
To see your MHealthy Rewards payment, please log into Wolverine Access to view your paycheck or call the Shared Service Call Center at (734) 615-2000.
On your paycheck, you will see additional line items under the "Hours and Earnings" section entitled:
- "Rewards Payment” – Indicates your $100 payment for completing the wellness screening and health questionnaire.
- “Fitness Center Reimbursement” – Indicates your reimbursement for every month you verified your fitness center membership. If you verify one month between January and October 2019, your payment will be $12. If you verify all 10 months, then your payment will be $120.
If the payment shows up in the YTD (year to date) column, then these payments have already been processed on a previous paycheck. If it is in the Current column, then your payment has occurred on the paycheck you are viewing.
What if I don't want to receive the monetary reward?
If you do not want to receive the reward, we suggest that you donate the incentive to a charity of your choice. Visit Leaders and Best giving website for possible areas to donate.

Unable to access the StayWell Portal or the IncentFit Website?
To verify your eligibility for the Rewards incentive program, please call the SSC HR Contact Center at 734-615-2000, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- If you are a new employee, it can take up to two weeks after you elect your benefits online for you to gain access to the StayWell Portal.
- For access to the IncentFit website, you must complete the 2019 StayWell health questionnaire by April 26, 2019. It will take two weeks after registering to gain access to the IncentFit website or mobile app.
