General Questions

What is MHealthy Rewards?
MHealthy Rewards is an annual incentive program which is free, voluntary and confidential. Rewards encourages benefits-eligible faculty and staff to participate in health and well-being programs and rewards them with an incentive. 
How do I participate in MHealthy Rewards 2017?

For eligible employees, MHealthy Rewards 2017 includes two steps:

Step 1:  Complete an eligible activity – earn $50

Step 2: Complete a different eligible activity – earn another $50

Please note: While the health questionnaire will be available, for 2017 there will not be an incentive for completing and it is not required to earn an incentive.

Why is the university offering MHealthy Rewards?
MHealthy Rewards helps eligible participants learn about their health and then take steps to improve or maintain it. The university is committed to creating and encouraging a culture of health among its faculty and staff. By creating a community of health at U-M, we can make our community a place where healthy living is welcomed and supported.
Why should I participate in MHealthy Rewards?
MHealthy Rewards encourages participants to find ways to improve or maintain their well-being and participate in programs that can help them on their journey to better health. Whether the goal is to manage health conditions, eat smarter, stress less, move more, manage weight, drink less alcohol, or quit tobacco, MHealthy Rewards includes programs that can help.    
How much does it cost?
Most eligible health and well­-being activities are free. The vast majority of participants will complete MHealthy Rewards without incurring any costs.
What if I have questions?

For overall Rewards and Eligible Activity Questions, please email: and provide your 8 digit U-M ID OR call MHealthy at 734-647-7888, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

For StayWell Portal and StayWell Programs Questions, please call the StayWell HelpLine at 800-543-6717, Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

If you are unable to access the StayWell Portal, you may need to verify your eligibility for the MHealthy Rewards program.  To find out if you are eligible, please call the SSC HR Contact Center at 734-615-2000, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.  – 5 p.m.

Please note: If are a new employee, it can take up to two weeks after you elect your benefits online for you to gain access to the StayWell Portal.  


Who can participate in MHealthy Rewards?
Qualifying benefits-­eligible faculty and staff can participate in MHealthy Rewards.

Please note: If at any time the eligible employee's benefit status changes (leave of absence, appointment change, etc.), the employee's eligibility to participate, and/or eligibility for any monetary reward, may also change.
I have never participated in the MHealthy Rewards; can I participate in this year's program?
Yes, if you are a qualifying benefits­-eligible faculty or staff, you can participate in MHealthy Rewards even if you did not participate in the previous years.
Can retirees participate in MHealthy Rewards?
No, retirees are not eligible for MHealthy Rewards.
Can temporary employees participate in MHealthy Rewards?
No, temporary employees are not eligible for MHealthy Rewards.
Can spouses or other qualified adults participate in MHealthy Rewards?
No, spouses or other qualified adults are not eligible for the 2017 program. 
Can my dependents participate in MHealthy Rewards?
No, dependents are not eligible for MHealthy Rewards. 

Rewards-Eligible Health and Well-Being Activities

What are the eligible health and well-being activities for MHealthy Rewards 2017?
To view the entire list of Rewards-­eligible activities for faculty and staff, go to MHealthy Rewards website and log into the StayWell Portal. Once logged into the Portal, select the "My Rewards Tracker" tab.
How does MHealthy know I am participating in an eligible activity?
Some Rewards-eligible activities require you to print a form and track your own activity (Ready to Lose, Weight Watchers, etc.). Other programs, like Active U, will monitor whether you completed the program and reflect that completion after the program has concluded. Still other activities, you will need to complete an online form (MHealthy Exercise & Relaxation Classes). Each activity is different and some have changed from last year.
If you have questions on your specific activity, or to access the form or online link, please  go to the StayWell Portal and look for your specific activity under the “My Rewards Tracker” tab. If you have additional questions, please contact MHealthy.
How can I tell if I completed an activity?
To see if you completed an eligible activity, log into the StayWell Portal. View these screenshots if you need help finding where to go in the Portal.
Can I do more than one activity at a time?
Yes, you can participate in two, different eligible activities at the same time.
Is Active U part of MHealthy Rewards?
Yes, Active U is a Rewards­-eligible activity. To participate in Active U, you must sign up by 5 p.m., February 6.
I am working on a health behavior using an activity of my own.   Does this qualify?
Yes, if you are working on a health behavior on your own, you can participate in the Your Choice Program, which allows you to received credit for an activity you are doing. To learn more, log into the StayWell Portal, select the "My Rewards Tracker" tab and select "Other Activities" to see the Your Choice Program.
Can I continue to participate in MHealthy health and well-being activities after I've completed MHealthy Rewards?
Absolutely! However, please note that you cannot earn more than $100 before-­tax reward ($50 for your first eligible activity completed, then another $50 for a second, different eligible activity).
Do I need to have my cholesterol and blood pressure measurements for the MHealthy Rewards 2017 program?
No, in 2017, MHealthy Rewards does not include biometric values like blood pressure or cholesterol.

Health Questionnaire

Is the Health Questionnaire an eligible activity?
No, while the health questionnaire is available in 2017, there is not an incentive for completing it.  
How do I access the online 2017 health questionnaire?
Please go to the MHealthy Rewards website.

Benefits-­eligible faculty and staff should log into the StayWell Portal using your U­M unique name and Kerberos/Level 1 password.

Once you are on the StayWell Portal, you can access the health questionnaire by either clicking on the ALL PROGRAMS tab OR click on the “Help Me Get Started” block.

I completed a health questionnaire for MHealthy Rewards previously. Can I do it again in 2017?
Yes, we encourage all qualifying benefits-­eligible faculty and staff to complete the health questionnaire annually to see how their health changes from year to year. 
Please note: For 2017 there will not be an incentive for completing the health questionnaire and it is not required to earn an incentive. 
What if I need assistance in completing the health questionnaire?
For assistance with completing the health questionnaire,please call StayWell at (800­) 543-­6717, Monday ­- Thursday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.


Is my information confidential?

Yes, information provided within the MHealthy Rewards program is treated as confidential. To protect your privacy, the University of Michigan has contracted with The StayWell Company, LLC, a national provider of health improvement services, to administer online programs, resources and the health questionnaire.

Your personally identifiable health data will not be shared with your manager, nor will it be added to any U­M faculty or staff files.  In addition, your information will not affect insurance coverage or benefits nor will they be disclosed to your insurance company.

Will I be penalized if I don't participate?
No, participation is voluntary.

Monetary Reward

Is there a monetary reward for participating in MHealthy Rewards?
Yes, qualifying benefits-eligible faculty and staff can earn up to $100 (before taxes) in their paycheck:

Step 1: Complete an eligible activity – earn $50

Step 2: Complete a different eligible activity – earn another $50

How will I receive my reward?
Rewards payments will be paid before taxes and will occur within your monthly or biweekly U-­M paycheck.
Where can I see my MHealthy Rewards payment?
To see your MHealthy Rewards payment, please log into Wolverine Access to view your paycheck. Click on your most current paycheck and look for additional line items entitled "Rewards Activity One’ which indicates your payment for the first activity you completed. If you complete a second activity, this additional line item will be called ‘Rewards Activity Two’. These line items can be found under the "Hours and Earnings" section. This is where your payment can be seen.
If the payment shows up in the YTD (year to date) column, then your payment for MHealthy Rewards has processed on a previous paycheck. If it is in the Current column, then your payment has occurred on the paycheck you are viewing.
For additional assistance, please talk with your department payroll administrator or call the SSC HR Contact Center at (734) ­615-­2000 for additional assistance.
When will I receive my monetary reward?
Payments can take 30-60 days to be paid, depending upon the activity you complete and if you are paid biweekly or monthly. 
What if I don't want to receive the monetary reward?
If you do not want to receive the reward, we suggest that you donate the incentive to a charity of your choice. Visit Leaders and Best giving website.

StayWell supports the latest versions of the following browsers:

As it relates to Internet Explorer and Microsoft Operating System, StayWell supports the latest browser available on operating systems supported by Microsoft, which includes the following:

  • Windows 7 SP1 with Internet Explorer 11
  • Windows 8.1 with Internet Explorer 11
  • Windows 10 with Internet Explorer 11
