Backyard BBQs, beach days and long summer nights often come with a drink in hand — but how much do you really know about how alcohol affects your body, mind and mood?
There’s some encouraging news: new data suggests that alcohol consumption and binge drinking among adults have started to decline over the past 2 to 3 years. It’s too soon to know whether this is just a temporary “blip” or the beginning of a longer-term trend, but it’s a positive sign. We know that alcohol can have negative effects on overall well-being, from sleep and energy levels to mood, safety and long-term health.
Test your knowledge
So, what might be influencing this shift — and how do your own alcohol habits and assumptions measure up? Take the updated five-question Summer Alcohol I.Q. quiz to test your knowledge. It only takes a few minutes, and you might be surprised by what you learn. You’ll also get practical tips to help you stay safe, informed and balanced all season long.
At the end of the quiz, U-M faculty and staff can enter a drawing for a chance to win one of five $25 Amazon gift cards. The deadline to enter is July 31, 2026.
