Stay In-Network and Save!

When you receive care from a dentist who participates with your Delta Dental plan, you will save the most money out-of-pocket. Plus, in-network dentists file claims for you.

Because dentists may change which networks they participate in over time, it’s best to verify that they currently participate in your plan’s network.

Find a Participating Dentist

  • Visit the Delta Dental Find-a-Dentist tool to find an in-network dentist near you.
  • Call Delta Dental’s Customer Service department toll-free at (800) 524-0149, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Eastern Time) to speak with a Delta Dental Customer Service representative.
  • Outside of normal business hours, Delta’s automated phone system is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and can provide you with a list of participating dentists.

The University of Michigan School of Dentistry

The U-M School of Dentistry and Community Dental Center provide dental services to the general public and participates with Delta Dental for insurance coverage. To confirm the Delta Dental network participation level, visit the School of Dentistry website.

PPO Dentist Vs. Premier Dentist

The Delta Dental plan offers two provider networks: Delta Dental PPO and Delta Dental Premier.

Your out-of-pocket costs are likely to be lower if you go to a Delta Dental PPO participating dentist. PPO dentists accept payment according to a schedule established by Delta Dental, and, in most cases, this results in a reduction of fees. Delta Dental also pays a higher percentage for most covered services if you go to a PPO dentist.

If your dentist is not a Delta Dental PPO dentist, you have back-up coverage through Delta Dental Premier. With a Premier dentist, Delta Dental pays a lower percentage for some covered services, which means you pay more out-of-pocket.

Nonparticipating Dentist

You can go to any dentist you wish, but, if you choose a dentist who does not participate in either the Delta Dental PPO or Premier program, you will be responsible for any difference between the allowable fee and the dentist’s submitted fee, in addition to any applicable copayment or deductible.

You will need to pay the nonparticipating dentist in full for services and then complete the Dental Claim Statement form and submit it to Delta Dental to request reimbursement for Delta Dental’s allowed fee for covered services.
