Help Flint children stay warm this winter

The Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) on the UM-Flint campus seeks donations to help young children and families who have been impacted by the water crisis.

Many children, ages three and four, do not have warm clothing to allow them to play outside. The center is asking the U-M community to donate various items to help these children, including:

Winter clothing:

  • Coats--sized toddler 4 and 5, small and extra small youth
  • Mittens—various youth size
  • Hats—various youth size
  • Snow pants—size toddler 4 and 5, small and extra small youth

In addition, the center seeks arts and crafts materials, toys and other items, including:

Arts and crafts materials:

  • Scrapbook material
  • Rocks, stones, sequins
  • Dry erase markers
  • Picture frames

Toys:

  • Matchbox cars
  • Flashlights
  • Baby dolls
  • Baby doll items
  • Dress up clothes – girls and boys
  • Musical instruments
  • Wash cloths
  • Variety sized balls

The ECDC serves approximately 150 children in the Flint community. In addition, the center operates free preschool programs in two local schools as well as a “pop-up” school in a mobile classroom.
