Get a Good Night's Rest with New Sleep Challenge

For many, sleep can be hard to come by these days.

Data from last year’s annual health questionnaire revealed that sleep issues were the most commonly reported high health risk among faculty and staff at the U-M. And that was before the pandemic.

To help members of the U-M community improve their sleep habits, MHealthy has launched Good Night, Sleep Right, a new eight-week online challenge. Registration is now open.

Starting March 15, participants collect points by completing activities that can improve sleeping habits and sleep quality. Earn points each day for:

  • Getting 7 – 9 hours of sleep
  • Limiting screen time one hour before bed
  • Avoiding caffeine 4 hours before bed
  • Getting at least 10 minutes of relaxation each day
  • Getting at least 10 minutes of physical activity each day

The goal is to earn at least two points per day, five days per week for a total of 10 or more points each week.

Good Night, Sleep Right is open to active, benefits-eligible faculty and staff (excluding those who are only eligible for the U-M GradCare health plan) and their spouse/other qualified adult if enrolled in a U-M health plan. The challenge is available on the MHealthy Portal, powered by Asset Health.

Tracking in the challenge starts during Sleep Awareness Week, which coincides with the beginning of Daylight Saving Time. During this time of the year, not only do most Americans lose an hour of sleep but they are also more vulnerable to sleep deprivation. MHealthy’s website includes a number of tips, programs and resources to help faculty and staff with getting a better night’s sleep.

Learn more and register for Good Night, Sleep Right by March 22.
