On the first Wednesday in April, the American Heart Association encourages us to get out from in front of our screens and get active! Help the UMHS celebrate National Walking Day on Wednesday, April 6.

There are two ways to join in:

  • On-site:  Join UMHS staff member-led walks starting in the Towsley Triangle and concluding with a cool-down/stretching session back in the Triangle, led by MHealthy. Fun prizes and incentives will be available, and informational tables will be set up from MHealthy, the Frankel CVC Wellness Resource Center, and the American Heart Association. Walk times are as follows:
    • 6:30 a.m.
    • 7:15 a.m.
    • 8:00 a.m.
    • 11:00 a.m.
    • 11:45 a.m.
    • 12:30 p.m.

Onsite registration will also be available for the Washtenaw County Heart Walk/5K Run which takes place the morning of Saturday, May 7.

  • Virtually:  Can’t make it to Towsley? On April 6, get moving on your own or with your coworkers at your building. Make sure to post a picture with the hastags #AHALaceUp or #UMHeartHeroes for a chance to win cool prizes!

MHealthy’s website also includes walking maps for Ann Arbor, UMHS, Dearborn and Flint campuses, as well as tips on how you can fit short bouts of movement into your day, every day, especially after sitting or standing in place for long periods of time.
