Housing

The Housing Information Office, a unit of University Housing, is the University community’s central source of housing information and assistance. While serving primarily the needs of University students, the office’s resources are available to faculty and staff as well. Services of specific interest to faculty and staff include:

  • Northwood Community Apartments/Townhouses. Faculty and staff are eligible to live in University-owned and operated apartments or townhouses based on availability of units after all student applicants have been offered a contract. Contracts are for 12 months continuous occupancy; eligibility extends to single parents, married couples with or without children; same-sex domestic partners with or without children; and single staff members. Interested faculty and staff can view a more complete description of facilities, programs, and services, as well as application details at www.housing.umich.edu/northwood/welcome.html.

  • Faculty and Staff Housing Referral. This is an online listing of residences available for leasing from faculty and staff members going on leave, extended vacations, or sabbaticals. This listing is made available only to faculty and staff members, both current and new to the University (www.offcampus.housing.umich.edu/staff/index.cfm).

  • Off-Campus Housing Program. Private Ann Arbor area rental property owners who participate in Housing’s landlord registration program advertise in an off-campus listing that is available on Housing’s Web site. University Housing also publishes a very informative off-campus housing booklet and a comprehensive Greater Ann Arbor and campus map (www.offcampus.housing.umich.edu).

  • Housing Advisors. Professional staff in the Housing Information Office are available to consult with faculty and staff about types of housing in the Ann Arbor area, although they in no way substitute for real estate professionals.

  • Conference Management Services. This department offers a number of services of potential interest to faculty and staff, including leasing of fully furnished and outfitted guest units in Northwood Community Apartments for limited term stays, and comprehensive conference planning and management services for academic units planning meetings, seminars, conferences, or workshops
    (www.cms.housing.umich.edu).

The Housing Information Office is located in 1011 Student Activities Building, 734-763-3164. Office hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. year-round. You can email them at housing@umich.edu or visit the Web at www.housing.umich.edu.
