Becoming a parent is a wonderful, exiting, and beautiful thing! The reality is that having a baby is also stressful,confusing, and exhausting. A baby changes everything! Learn how to keep your relationship strong, how to take care of yourself, handle the stress that a baby brings, how to build support, and much more.

Grandparenting Making it Grand! (pdf)

East Ann Arbor Health & Geriatrics Center

There will be some surprises in store when you become a grandparent. Learn the latest trends in childcare, child-rearing practices, safety and much more. We’ll also discuss the joys (and challenges) of being a grandparent, how you can support your child, and take care of yourself.

Safe Sitter (pdf)

Recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics and taught by Registered Nurses of the University of Michigan Health System. Safe Sitter students will learn babysitting ethics, how to care for children (age appropriate play, feeding, holding an infant, etc.), injury prevention, basic first aid, and how to care for a choking infant or child.

Baby Care Basics (pdf)

This class is designed to give you a complete head-to-toe look at how to care for your newborn. Topics include bathing, diapering, safety, infant stimulation and much, much more. It’s recommended that you take this class at the beginning of your third trimester.

Discipline – Make it Positive

East Ann Arbor Health and Geriatrics Center

Learn how to positively discipline your child or children age 2-6 in this helpful class.

Parents will learn:

  • How to use positive reinforcement
  • Tips to increase the effectiveness of parent commands
  • Intervention strategies
  • Rules to remember when using punishment
  • Key concepts underlying behavior management
  • How to start a token economy
  • Other discipline resources
