QUIT TOBACCO GROUP PROGRAMS
Group programs are led by quit tobacco counselors from MHealthy Tobacco Consultation Service (TCS). Groups meet for:
- six weeks
- sixty to ninety minutes each meeting
The first three weeks are spent preparing to quit. The fourth week is "quit" night and is followed by another meeting 48 hours later. The last three weeks are spent "learning to be a nonsmoker" and developing skills for staying quit. Topics covered in all group programs include:
- preparing to quit
- how quitting affects your body
- quit tobacco aids
- setting a quit date
- tips for staying quit
Group programs are part of the MHealthy Tobacco Independence Program (MTIP) which offers a $100 before tax incentive for benefits-eligible U-M faculty and staff and enrolled spouses and Other Qualified Adult dependents.
Consider one of the following group programs if you would benefit from the support and shared commitment of other people.
Tobacco Treatment Program - This tobacco treatment program is open to people of all ages. New groups start almost every month and are offered either during the day or in the evening. This program is free for U-M employees and patients with a U-M physician referral. For all others, cost is $100. New programs start:
- Thursdays, starting April 25, from 11 a.m. - 12:00 noon at 2025 Traverwood Drive, Suite A3, Ann Arbor
- Mondays, starting June 3, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at 2025 Traverwood Drive, Suite A3, Ann Arbor

Smoking Cessation for Seniors - This quit smoking program is for adults over age 50. It meets in the afternoon at U-M Health System's Turner Senior Resource Center which co-sponsors the program. The program is free for U-M employees, U-M retirees and patients with a U-M physician referral. Scholarships and travel assistance may be available for selected low-income seniors.

Stay Quit Support Group - This free support group is for adults over age 50, who have quit smoking. It is held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. at the Turner Senior Resource Center, 2401 Plymouth Rd, Suite C, in Ann Arbor. Sessions are informal and based on participant interests and concerns. Registration is not required.
