Did You Know?

Volunteer today for a cancer-free tomorrow

If you could help finish the fight against cancer, would you? Now is your chance. To better understand ways to prevent cancer, the American Cancer Society is recruiting men and women across the US and Puerto Rico for a landmark new research study – Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). Enrollment is being made possible in partnership with the University of Michigan beginning in late October. Individuals may choose to participate if they are willing to make a long-term commitment to the study (which involves completing follow-up surveys periodically over the next 20-30 years), are between the ages of 30 and 65 years old and have never been diagnosed with cancer.

Call 1-888-604-5888, e-mail or click here to get more information and enrollment locations at U-M.

Creating a Healthier U
Depression affects approximately 1 in 10 adults in the United States, according to the CDC. Thursday, Oct. 10 is National Depression Screening Day and in support, U-M offers confidential online screenings available anytime. Additionally, free, in-person, one-on-one mental health screenings for faculty, staff and students at several Ann Arbor locations will be available. These confidential screenings are with a trained mental health professional and will be conducted at various locations throughout the day. Free screenings are a good way for people to find out if depression might be the cause of feelings they have been experiencing, including prolonged sadness, anxiety, irritability, loss of pleasure in activities, feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness and even physical pain.
