Rewards & Active U 2013

Coming Jan. 22 – MHealthy Rewards 2013
We all have our reasons for wanting to be healthy – feeling good, being around for loved ones, releasing stress. No matter your reason, MHealthy Rewards can help you maintain or improve your health.

Beginning Jan. 22, qualifying benefits-eligible faculty and staff can:

  1. Complete the confidential annual health questionnaire by March 15 to get a personalized health report and earn $50 (before-tax) and a chance to win a $500 prize
  2. Then, complete one Rewards-eligible activity before July to earn an additional $50

Eligible activities include Active U 2013, MHealthy Weight Management and dozens of other activities to help you stress less, eat smarter, be tobacco-free, and move more.

We are also excited to announce a new feature: If you are a U-M employee who has an enrolled spouse or other qualified adult (OQA) on your U-M health plan, that spouse/OQA can also complete the 2013 health questionnaire to get a personalized health report. They will have the opportunity to enter into a drawing to win a $500 prize, and have access to free or reduced-cost health and well-being programs.

Successful weight management is not just about what you eat, it also has a lot to do with what you think. Negative thoughts and self-doubt can hinder your weight loss progress just as much as anything you put in your mouth. Weight loss is about learning healthy habits, eating nutritious food, moving your body, and maintaining a positive attitude, even when you have a temporary setback.

MHealthy's Weight Management Program provides support and guidance and gives you access to a team of registered dietitians, physical activity and health behavior experts, who will work with you for an entire year to help you stay focused and healthy. The program includes one-on-one personal nutrition and fitness consultations, 12 weekly group classes and 12 months of phone/email support. Registration opens Dec. 11 for January 2013 sessions.

MHealthy also partners with Weight Watchers to offer a discounted rate to faculty, staff and spouses/OQAs enrolled in a U-M health plan. Additionally, both MHealthy Weight Management and Weight Watchers are Rewards-eligible activities (see article to left).

Kristen R.

"The MHealthy Weight Management Program helped me see how my thoughts and feelings were influencing the choices I was making. I knew what I should be eating and how I should be exercising but I learned how I was sabotaging my own best efforts! I learned how to really change my lifestyle, remain vigilant regarding good health and get right back on track if I strayed. I've lost 20 pounds and have kept most of it off for two years."
