INTERNSHIPS & TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT

Internships

MHealthy has internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of employee wellness, community health promotion, fitness center management, personal training, corporate health promotion, health education, nutrition, tobacco cessation, and marketing.

Prospective interns should consider the following:

  • Internship positions and specific projects/tasks vary based on seasonal MHealthy program needs and the individual interests and goals of selected interns.
  • In order to be considered for an MHealthy internship, potential interns must have completed at least their junior year of college and be majoring in a health-related field.
  • A limited number of stipends may be available for interns who complete at least 360 hours of work with MHealthy.

Application deadlines are as follows:

Summer internship - February 1
Fall internship - August 1
Winter internship - December 1

How to apply:

  1. Get to know MHealthy and its programs.
  2. Fill out the online internship application.
  3. Fax, email, or mail your resume with contact information for two professional references to MHealthy. All correspondence should be directed to the attention to "MHealthy Internship Coordinator".

Once your application, resume, and references are received, the Internship Coordinator will review and forward your materials to relevant program supervisors. Individual internship supervisors may then select applicants for screening and interviews.

Temporary Employment

MHealthy occasionally has temporary employment opportunities for Exercise Class Instructors, Fitness Specialists, Personal Trainers, Immunization Nurses and Heart Health Screeners.

Exercise Class Instructors

If you are interested in instructing one of our classes you must currently be certified in CPR and currently certified in the area you wish to teach (Yoga, Pilates, etc.). Contact Colleen Greene at cmgi@umich.edu or (734) 975-3056 for information on open positions.

Fitness Specialists

If you are interested in a fitness specialist position at the MFit Fitness Center at the Ice Cube you must have a degree in a related field. Contact Carol Warheit at cwarheit@med.umich.edu or (734) 998-8700 for information on open positions.

Personal Trainers

If you are interested in a personal training position you must have a degree in a related field and certification. Contact Eric Breitenbeck at ejbreite@med.umich.edu or (734) 647-7714/(734) 998-8700 for information on open positions.

Immunization Nurses

Immunization nurses provide on-site vaccinations at various locations in SE Michigan. Those interested need to be a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, have a current nursing license in the state of Michigan and be CPR/AED certified. Heart Health Screeners

Screeners provide on-site health promotion services such as cholesterol and/or blood pressure screenings at various locations in SE Michigan. Those interested need to have a bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, experience in health education and/or life-style related health promotion activities and be CPR/AED certified.
