Notes: Trends in Average Days to Fill by Job Family

  • In May 2006, the University implemented a new applicant management system, eMploy.  This system allows applicants to apply online and directly route their resumes to hiring units.  For hard-to-fill positions, the system allows the hiring units to search the candidate pool for candidates that match their job requirements.  The expectation is that this new system will result in significant decreases in the time it takes to fill positions at the University of Michigan.
  • Overall, for the year, UM is averaging 63 days to fill, up slightly from last year.  Exhibit 5.1 provides trend data for the past five years. The industry benchmark for comparison is 43 days to fill.  While the overall average for the year was up, jobs filled since the implementation of eMploy have averaged 51 days to fill.
  • Exhibit 5.2 provides details by career family and compares data for jobs filled using M-Pathways vs. eMploy.
