  • Patient care revenues (45%), government grants and contracts (16%), and tuition and fees (15%) make up nearly three-fourths of the overall university revenue.  State appropriations make up 8% of overall revenue.
  • Compensation and benefits costs represent 64% of University of Michigan expenses.
    • Auxiliary enterprises represents 51% of overall compensation and benefit expenses and is largely accounted for by the Hospital and Health Centers activities and staff.
  • Approximately 26% of University Human Resources (UHR) department expenses for FY2006 supported the  Benefits Office and programs.
  • Overall, the UHR budget represents 0.41% of total university expenses.  By comparison, Corporate Leadership Council institutions report a median of 0.90% and Saratoga Institute Benchmark data reports a median of 0.59%.
