Welcome to your website.
Yes, if you work at the University of Michigan, this is YOUR website, not ours. How so, you ask?
The Building Great Places to Work website is offered as a place to reflect on, discuss, change, enhance, or celebrate the climates of the places we work. It asks, "How can we help each other develop the truly best working environments?"
What is a great workplace? Research by Great Place to Work® Institute indicates that crucial ingredients include the three components listed above: trust, pride, and camaraderie. We have a lot more to say about that question, but, put in a nutshell, the end result is a workplace that supports and enables each of us to do our very best work.
What this is About may be somewhat different for the University Library than for the Housing Division or the Medical School. That's why this site is not a prescription, but meant to be a home for an ongoing campus discussion.
How can you do this? We're convinced there are lots of different actions that make a difference in the tone of a workplace — some macro, some micro — so there is a role for anyone who cares. You don't have to be a dean or an executive officer to make a difference. On the other hand, if you ARE a dean or an executive officer, you can certainly help.
Why here? This is Michigan. We're "the leaders and the best." For years, Michigan faculty members have led the field in studying and describing the very best workplaces. Let's put their research to work!
