eMploy Updates

Did you know…

eMploy is HTML friendly?  You can create the perfect format for your job posting using Dreamweaver or MS FrontPage and simply copy and paste from your HTML document into the Job Requisition Creation Wizard panels.  Include fonts, colors, Hyperlinks and more to deliver your message and attract qualified applicants.

Be sure to verify the accuracy of your HTML tag lines by previewing your document prior to using the copy and paste function, as your EPC may not be able to make appropriate corrections for you.

New Candidate Job Bid Disposition Added

A new Candidate Job Bid Disposition has been added to help you determine which resumes you’ve reviewed and which ones you haven’t.  The new candidate job bid disposition is called “REVIEWED”, and should be used as a temporary marker when reviewing resumes.  If the candidate is later seriously considered, the disposition should be updated to document an accurate outcome.  As always, any candidate seriously considered or contacted must have a disposition assigned.  Any bidders left in a pending status will be considered as Not Qualified for EEO reporting purposes.

eMploy – Helpful Hints

Managing Candidate Pools - Part One

One of the terrific things about the eMploy system is the increase of applicant bids on job requisitions.   But this can also be a major challenge for hiring units that have a popular job posting.  One of the ways to pare down your qualified job bidders and make your candidate pool more manageable might be to rethink the content of your job posting itself.  Writing an effective job posting is not as easy as it sounds and trying to achieve the balance between the “basics” and “too much information” can be challenging.   The most effective job postings should be clear, concise and sell your position, so that it attracts the most qualified job seekers.  The following tips are intended to help you create the ultimate job posting for your area, and we’ve also attached a sample job posting for you to use as a formatting and content guide when creating a posting in your area:

Tips for writing an effective job posting

Keep it Simple

Too much information can overwhelm candidates or make them skim over the posting rather than read it.

Be Succinct

Use bullet points and avoid block text.  More is not necessarily better.  Job Seekers want to scan job postings. So using bullet points makes it much easier to both read and scan for the pertinent information they are seeking when making the decision to apply.

Capture the basics

Use the Posting Format Template to capture this basic information and create a uniform look for all University job postings; see attached sample job posting.

Be Specific & Descriptive

Generic job titles, descriptions and requirements attract generic job applicants.  Be descriptive in both areas.  Decide exactly what you are looking for ahead of time and design your job posting around your requirements and competencies.  Doing this can also make it easier to develop competency based interview questions.

Highlight the Benefits

This is great advertising for internal and external candidates. Don’t forget to include unit specific training and development opportunities.

Contact Information

Think about adding an email address for candidates to contact with questions.

Make it Real

Be open and honest in your descriptions.  Remember your goal is to give an accurate picture of the position while enticing qualified candidates to apply.

Use Keywords

Keywords drive the search engines and determine search results for job seekers.  They also drive the email alerts for matching jobs sent to passive candidates.  So try to choose keywords that the ideal candidate for your position would use to search on or include in their resume. The attached sample job posting has some possible keywords highlighted in yellow.  (Note: Using keywords in searches will be covered in next month’s Newsletter)

Proofread or Spell Check the Content

We recommend creating the posting as a Word or HTML document and using the spell check feature to make sure your spelling and grammar are correct.  It can then be copied and pasted into the eMploy system.  Mistakes in the posting will not make a good impression on the job seeker.  In addition, do not use ALL CAPS when writing your posting.  In today’s electronic conversations, using ALL CAPS can be interpreted as shouting.
