FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY |
| To
perform complex electrical work in the installation, maintenance
and repair of primary electrical (high voltage 2400 volts and
above) equipment and cables; and to assign, coordinate and inspect
the work of Electricians assisting in installation and repair
of de-energized high voltage equipment and cables. |
| CHARACTERISTIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
Perform
repair and maintain work on energized high voltage circuits, including
the removal of fuses, links and buss connections.
Fabricate and install high voltage controls, meter relays and
circuit-breakers.
Splice and terminate a variety of high voltage primary cables.
Dismantle and repair energized primary electrical equipment, replacing
sectionalizing box, pot-heads, links and burned out fuses.
Test high voltage electrical circuits in installed or repaired
equipment, using electrical measuring instruments, such as DC
high pots, mega ohmmeters and fault locators.
Analyze malfunctions of primary high voltage electrical equipment,
using ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter drawings, visual inspection,
meggers and high potting equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance activities, including periodic
visual inspections and the testing of shunts, switches, series
tripping devices, disconnects and air circuit breakers.
Pull high voltage cable through conduit by means of power pullers.
Inspect new high voltage primary electrical installations for
compliance with applicable state and local codes.
Write complex switching orders to enable scheduled or unscheduled
building power shut downs. |

Cut,
thread and route primary conduit and underground duct systems.
Fabricate and install control and distribution apparatus, including
switches relays and circuit breaker panels.
Connect wiring to electrical fixtures and power equipment.
Cut, thread, bind and route conduit and pull wire through conduit
by means of fish tape.
Analyze malfunctions of electrical equipment and test continuity
of electrical circuits installed or of repaired equipment.
Dismantle and repair defective wires, motor brushes, condensers
and burned out fuses.
Sketch and read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches,
circuit diagrams and job specifications.
Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.
Read watt hour meters. |

| QUALIFICATIONS |
Graduation
from high school and specialized training in primary electrical
work, including cable splicing, stress cone terminations and high
voltage breaker maintenance and testing.
Completion of an apprenticeship program in high voltage electrical
work is desirable.
Considerable knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials
used in the repair and installation of primary electrical systems.
Considerable knowledge of the maintenance requirements of primary
electrical equipment, fixtures and devices is necessary.
A state journeyman's license in high voltage work is desirable.
Considerable experience in the installation, maintenance and repair
of primary electrical equipment and devices.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and diagrams.
