FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY |
| As
an apprentice to assemble, install and repair piping, fixtures
and equipment used in the production and distribution of steam
or hot water under low or high pressure. |
| CHARACTERISTIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
Perform
the following duties as an apprentice:
Install, inspect and repair steam and water lines, equipment,
radiators, traps, valves, pumps, gauges, controls, fittings, and
accessories.
Cut pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, and
cutting torch.
Thread pipe, using threading machine, and bend pipe by hand or
with pipe-bending machine.
Assemble and install pipe and pipe fittings of brass, copper,
lead, glass, plastic and other materials.
Join piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed,
fused, cemented or welded joints.
Test piping systems for leaks, using gauges.
Secure pipes to structures with clamps, brackets and hangers.
Install and maintain boilers, and refrigeration and air-conditioning
systems.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications.
Cut or bore through walls, ceilings or partitions.
Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.
