Thomas honored with Executive Leadership Award for VOICES, employee engagement

Laurita Thomas, Associate Vice President for Human Resources, was honored with the Executive Leadership Award from employee engagement association IdeasAmerica (IA) for decades of service promoting employee engagement at all levels. A major factor in receiving the award was her creation and championing of VOICES of the Staff.

VOICES of the Staff is an unprecedented opportunity for campus-wide staff communication and involvement. The program is volunteer-based and offers University of Michigan staff the opportunity to share ideas as well as define and positively impact campus community issues. Members of VOICES are selected from a pool of applicants to represent a demographic microcosm of the entire U-M staff community.

Thomas was nominated for the award by Mary Ellen Dolan, Performance Support Analyst at ITS. In addition to VOICES, Dolan cited Thomas’ decades of commitment to encourage employee engagement for the betterment of the university.

IA is an internationally recognized organization serving professional managers and administrators of employee ideas, involvement and innovation systems for over 68 years. IA provides quality educational programs, publications, benchmarking and networking opportunities.

The award will be presented at IdeasAmerica’s 69th Annual Networking & Training Conference on Thursday September15, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas.
